My Maternal Great-Grand Parents:

Silas Monk CARTER (born 19 Dec 1842 in Randolph Co GA; died 2 Jul 1933 in Austin, TX), son of William CARTER and Martha SKINNER, married Menecia America IVY (born 30 Jan 1843 In Choctow Co AL; died 6 Mar 1922 in Eastland Co TX)  on 20 Oct 1865 in Clark Co AL. They traveled by covered wagon from AL to TX in 1881. Their children were:

2. J.L. Carter, born 21 Jun 1868
3. Francis E. Carter, born 23 Aug 1870
4. Martha Jane Carter, born 4 Jul 1872
5. Alice Carter, born 26 Jan 1878
6. Mary Elizabeth (Bettie) Carter, born 21 Oct 1877 in Clark Co. AL

7. Lucy Carter, born May 1880
8. Benjamin Franklin Carter, born 3 Jul 1883
9. Annie Mecia Carter, born 13 Feb 1886

My Maternal Grandmother and Grandfather:

Mary Elizabeth Carter and Rev. John Robert Slaughter
with their first child, Eunice

They were married 23 Aug 1894 in Athens, Henderson Co,TX.
They had 11 children, eight girls (Verlie Mae is my mother), and three boys

Rev and Mrs John R. Slaughter (1934)

were married for almost 65 years.
They both loved and served their Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ.  Rev. Slaughter was a "called" Methodist minister who "rode a circuit" for many years around Eastland and neighboring counties. Having fought the good fight,
he departed for Glory on a beautiful Sunday morning, 15 Feb 1959.
Mrs Slaughter joined him on 12 Oct 1963.
Silas and Menecia Carter are buried next to the Slaughters
in the Eastland TX City Cemetary
and all are present with the Lord.
